This Tech Tip demonstrates how to solve a simple problem that can pop up on the NEC DSX 80 phone system.
The Problem
An NEC DSX 80 Installer called in reporting that the first 8 feature keys were solid red, and that he could not pull dial tone on them.
I asked, was this a T1 cut over?
He answered: “No, just plain old telephone lines.”
I asked him if the line ports for that card were programmed on the first 8 keys?
He told me: “Yes.”
I asked him to tell me if the small switch towards the top of the CO Line card was up or down?
He said: “Down.”
The Solution
I explained that this was a service switch, and when in the down position, it takes the card out of service and causes the feature keys programmed for those line ports to be lit up red. I had him flip the switch back up and the problem was solved.
