Installing a CO Line Trunk Daughterboard in the NEC SL2100

This Tech Tip covers the procedure for mounting an NEC SL2100 3-Port CO Line Card onto the CPU Card inside the main chassis. This procedure applies specifically to slot 1, but the same method can be used for other slots.

Important Notes

  • Circuit boards are not hot swappable. Do not remove or install boards while the system is powered on.
  • Do not power on the system until all installations are complete.
  • If expansion chassis are installed, power on and off in this order: Expansion 2 → Expansion 1 → Main Chassis.
  • Smooth cut edges after removing the plastic knockout to avoid injury.
  • Always back up the system database using PCPro before hardware changes.

Slot Location Reference

Each 4KSU-C1 main chassis has four universal slots (excluding the CPU/EXIFE slot), which support station, trunk, and optional boards.

  • Slots 4, 8, and 12 do not support any type of multiline terminal.
  • These slots can be used for analog extensions or trunk cards.

Refer to the hardware diagram for exact slot locations.

Mounting the CO Line Trunk Card

  1. Turn off power to the system.
  2. Loosen the two screws securing the base card (082U, 008U, or 000U) and remove the card.
  3. Cut and remove the specified plastic knockouts on the base card.
  4. Mount the 3COIDB or 1PRIDB board onto the base card using the provided screw.
  5. Insert the combined assembly into the guide rail of the chassis and push it in securely.

Identifying the Trunk Daughterboard

You can identify the type of installed trunk daughterboard without removing it by checking the connector layout on the front panel:

  • IP7WW-3COIDB-C1 uses an RJ-61 for CO lines
  • IP7WW-1PRIDB-C1 uses an RJ-45 for PRI/T1/E1

Refer to the connector placement chart for quick recognition.

Cabling Information

3COIDB RJ-61 Pin-Outs (CO Lines)

Refer to the pin-out table specific to the RJ-61 connector used by the 3COIDB card.

1PRIDB RJ-45 Pin-Outs (PRI/T1/E1)

Refer to the pin-out table specific to the RJ-45 connector used by the 1PRIDB card.

PRI Switch Settings

  1. Set jumpers J6 through J9 per the recommended configuration (default settings are often acceptable).
  2. Connect the NT1 network termination cable to the J5 connector on the 1PRIDB board.
  3. Assign trunk type (PRI or T1) in Program 10-51-01.

LED Status Indicators

The daughterboard (3COIDB, 1PRIDB) does not include its own LED. The status LED on the base board (082U, 008U, or 000U) is used instead.

  • The base board’s LED will flash green (100 ms on / 100 ms off) under normal conditions.
  • If multiple statuses are present, the LED will display the highest priority condition.
  • Refer to the full LED priority chart for detailed status codes.

T1 Alarm Modes

Refer to the T1 LED pattern chart for diagnostic and alarm status indicators related to T1 operation.
