This Tech Tip demonstrates the step-by-step procedure for physically installing a VoIP Daughterboard (VoIP DB) card onto the CPU card inside the main chassis of the NEC SL2100 phone system.
Notes
- This procedure describes installation in Slot #1, but the same process applies to other VoIP DB slots as well.
- Circuit boards are not hot-swappable. Do not remove or install components while the system is powered on.
- Do not power on the system until all installations have been completed.
- If Expansion Chassis are present, always power off and on in this order:
- Expansion 2 Chassis
- Expansion 1 Chassis
- Main Chassis
- Smooth the cut edges after removing any plastic knockout to avoid injury.
- Use PCPro to obtain a backup of the system database before beginning.
⚠️ Important: After installation and system reboot, the standard LAN connector becomes inaccessible. You must connect to the system via the VoIP port, which uses the default IP address 172.16.0.10.
Installing the VoIP DB Card
- Turn off the system power.
- Loosen the two screws and carefully remove the CPU board from the chassis.
- Cut and remove the plastic knockout on the chassis cover to make room for the DB card’s external port.
- Install the VoIP Daughterboard onto the J2 connector of the CPU board. Secure it using the four mounting screws.
- Re-insert the CPU board into the guide rails of the chassis. Push firmly to seat it fully, then tighten the two screws to secure it.
- Connect a LAN cable from the VoIP Daughterboard to a switching hub.
- Restore power to the system.
⚠️ Important: After reboot, you cannot connect to the LAN connector. You must use the VoIP connector. Default IP address: 172.16.0.10
